We’ve been providing reliable and comfortable transport to Otago locals since 1990.
35 years ago, Hilton Chittock started a small bus service, with one bus taking employees to the construction of the new Macraes goldmine. As the mine grew, so did demand for employee transport, and more buses had to be added to the fleet. From Waikouaiti, Dunedin, Karitane, Palmeston, and Oamaru, back and forth, 365 days of the year. You’ve probably seen our buses with the ‘OceanaGold’ wrapping, busy taking Mcraes staff to and from work, because we are still doing this three decades on.
Hilton’s son, Mike Chittock, started getting involved in the business, initially driving and carrying out maintenance on the fleet. Then when Hilton retired, Mike took over the business, with a detailed knowledge of the business, combined with fresh energy and a desire to provide Otago with more bus services. While the main focus was still Macraes staff transport, they started adding charter work as time and resources allowed.
From these humble beginnings as the ‘Macraes buses’, we’ve grown to become a trusted charter bus and coach hire service throughout Otago and New Zealand.
We are your local bus company. We are 100% Otago owned and operated, run, and staffed, and working for you. We currently have 14 buses and coaches, and employ about 20 people between Oamaru, Waikouaiti and Dunedin.
We provide a highly reliable (some customers joke they can set their clocks by us), comfortable, clean, and efficient service. We work with you to achieve exactly what you want, whether it’s a one-off chartered trip, or a long term scheduled service.
